Equipment are items which can be assigned to explorers to improve their performance on expeditions.

Item Types[ | ]

There are three types of equipment: trinkets, offense, and defense. Each explorer has a limited number of slots designated for each type of equipment. Explorers can equip one of each at level 1, and gain an additional trinket slot as they level up. To equip a piece of equipment to one of your explorers, drag it onto an empty slot of the appropriate type.

  • Offense type items increase Attack Power and/or Speech Power, which help deal more damage to opponents in combat.
  • Defense type items increase Armor, Speech Defense, and/or Grit, all of which help mitigate the amount of damage your opponents deal to you in combat.
  • Trinket slot items have various effects, ranging from purely combat-focused items to items that give your character various Perks to help in out-of-combat situations.

Equipment Shops[ | ]

Most equipment is bought during the preparation phase in one of the three available Item Shops, by spending the Gold you've accumulated on your expeditions. Each shop can be leveled up with Gold to unlock more items.

Equipment that is no longer needed can be sold to the Equipment Shop for 75% of its price in Gold. If you later regret your decision, you can buy the item back for this reduced price, but only during the same Preparation phase in which you sold it. The reverse is not true: if you buy an item, immediately selling it will only get you 75% of its price back.

Red Square Market (Moscow)[ | ]

This store is unlocked from the start of the game. Basic Offense and Defense items are sold here, as well as a wide selection of Trinkets.

Expedition Traders[ | ]

Certain Expeditions will have a Trader iconTrader icon on one of its nodes. These Traders will usually sell you Supplies at a cost of 1 Resolve per 4, but might also have some special items available. These items can only be purchased with Gold, so if you leave for an Expedition to one of these areas it might be worthwhile to not spend all your Gold during Preparation.

Highlands Trader[ | ]

All items are sold for 30 Gold, but randomly one of the items will be on sale for 15 Gold the first time it's bought. They have different actual values and can be sold back for 75% of that value between missions.

Patch 17:
- You can now unlock Muscat, hosting a trinket bazaar in the Middle east.
Patch 15:
- Moondisk worth 375 now.
Patch 13:
- Lute gives Storytelling instead of Astonishing.
Patch 11:
- Trinkets are cheaper and weaker. Removed a lot of the weird side effects.
- Trowel and Broom aura reduced to -10 Speech Defense.
- Tactician notes reduced to 15% Attack boost.
- Selling price of items is now 75%.
- Offensive items are stronger, decent and good offensive items are 33% cheaper.
Patch 10:
- Equipment shops now level through Gold. (changed from Status) - Rose gives the Beguiler - Beautiful Smile perk instead of Beguiler - Storytelling.
Patch 9:
- Defensive items have a bigger disparity between their first and secondary buffs.
Patch 5:
- A new trinket in New Orleans: The Spyglass.
- A lot of trinkets have their price down, usability improved, and usage simplified.
- Trowel and Broom boost fixed to melee range, and power decreased to -20 Speech Defense.
Patch 4:
- Buff gained from gloves in Sydney now add 40% damage instead of 25% damage.
